From 14 April 2020, the car theory test will include 3 multiple-choice questions based on a short video you'll watch. The way the theory test works in England, Scotland and Wales will change from 14 April 2020. The same changes will apply in Northern Ireland. The Department for Transport (DfT) has announced today (18 July) that it will explore if graduated driver licensing - or a similar scheme - should be introduced in England. Ignoring a ‘red X’ sign on a Smart Motorway could land you a £100 fine, with police granted use of camera evidence from today.  Beforehand, fines were only levied to drivers illegally using closed lanes if they were caught by an officer at the time of the offence.
